toledo3HIGHLIGHTS: Two winery visits with wine tasting, traditional lunch with wine, visit a historical site in a town protected by a castle, transport to and from Madrid. (approximate duration 10-11h)

We will leave Madrid in the morning around 9.00 amtowards Ribera del Duero admiring the scenery of this beautiful rural region along the way.

In the morning we will visit two wineries with wine tasting included. We will always try to combine two different style wineries, modern with traditional or small family-owned with larger producers. We will probably visit at least one with old cellars and one surrounded by vineyards. We will be given a comprehensive tour of one of the wineries, visiting the facilities and being guided through the process and secrets of wine making, from the grape to the bottle. This will be both an educational and fun experience.

After the visits we will enjoy a well deserved lunch where we’ll try the traditional and famous roasted lamb of Ribera, perfect companion for the Ribera wine. Lunch will be a three course meal with wine and coffee. We’ll try to have lunch in a winery or a winery – restaurant.

After lunch we will enjoy some of the history of Castilla, we will visit the small walled town of Peñaranda protected by the medieval castle with the Palace of Zúñiga y Avellaneda from the 16th century, and the old pharmacy owned by the Ximeno family since 1685, which is one of the best kept secrets of the region. A walk in its streets will bring you back in time. Alternatively we may visit the town of Peñafiel, and its magnificent castle from the 11th century, home of a newly opened wine museum. And back to Madrid where we will arrive around 8.00 pm.

The wineries we visit will depend on the day of the tour and will be confirmed when reservations are made.
